The temples at Angkor are spread out over some 40 miles around the village of Siem Reap, about 192 miles from the Cambodian capital, Phnom Penh. They were built between the eighth and 13th centuries and range from a single tower made of bricks to vast stone temple complexes.
The City of Angkor was allegedly home to more than a million people at the peak of the Khmer Empire in the 12th and 13th centuries. Today the temples of Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom, Bayon and countless other temples stand as a lasting reminder of this once powerful empire and make the area a fascinating place to visit.
