Vientiane (pronounced 'Vieng Chan' by the locals) is a laid-back city with interesting wats (temples) and lively markets. Then visit the ancient capital city of Luang Prabang. Famous for its historic temples and beautiful setting surrounded by mountains, Luang Prabang was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995.
