An exciting tour that highlights the Northern hilltribes and the exotic Golden Triangle. Tour highlights include a visit to the Elephant Camp for a demonstration by these gigantic beasts, enjoy a boat trip from Thatorn to Chiang Rai where you will stop along the way to see the hilltribe villages. Stop at the Golden Triangle where you can look across the river and see both Laos and Myanmar (Burma).

Day 01 - Chiang Mai-Chiang Rai

Early morning departure from Chiang Mai to visit the elephant work camp. Continue on to Thatorn. Lunch at a local restaurant. This afternoon depart by longtail boat for an exciting journey on the Kok River. Stop at local villages along the way. Arrive in Chiang Rai. Overnight at your choice of hotels. Meals:L

Important Note About The Boat Ride: Long tail boats are long shallow boats much like a very large, long, shallow canoe. They do not have covers so you will be exposed to the elements.

Day 02 - Full Day Golden Triangle & Hilltribe Sightseeing

Breakfast at hotel. Your full day tour begins with a drive to Chiang Sean, the historic city that dates back more than 700 years. Drive along the famous Maekong River to the "Golden Triangle," the exact spot where Thailand, Laos and Myanmar meet. Continue to a small trading town on the Myanmar (Burma) border. After lunch, continue to the Doi Mae Salong area, home of Akha and Yao hilltribes where a short stop will be made at a hilltribe village. Return to Chiang Rai and your hotel. Meals: B/L

Day 03 - Chiang Rai Sightseeing - Ends At Chiang Rai Airport

Breakfast at hotel. This morning enjoy local sightseeing around Chiang Rai. Lunch at a local restaurant. This afternoon transfer to Chiang Rai Airport for your onward flight. Tour disbands upon arrival at Chiang Rai Airport. Meals: B/L

Note: For planning purposes we suggest you book hotel accommodations in Chiang Mai the night prior to starting this tour. The arrival time at Chiang Rai Airport on Day 3 is scheduled for Thai Airways flight #131 departing Chiang Rai at 3:30 P.M., please make your flight reservations accordingly.

a) When this tour is purchased in conjunction with our Chiang Mai Explorer program, a Chiang Mai Temples tour will be substituted for the Elephants at Work tour.

This tour is available on both a Seat-In-Coach Basis and as a Private Tour.

Seat-In-Coach Tours: These tours depart every Wednesday & Friday from Chiang Mai. “Seat-In-Coach“ basis means you will be joined with other tourists during your tour. Tours are conducted using various types of vehicles (van, mini-bus, bus) depending on the number of tour members. A knowledgeable English speaking guide will be on hand to explain the culture, history and answer your questions.

Private Sightseeing Tours are just for you and your traveling companions. They can operate daily and are conducted using a private vehicle (car/van) with a driver and an English speaking guide.
